Rivals have put up a boatload of points in recent meetings, and it’s hard to imagine why that wouldn’t continue. Cougars’ ability to run the ball (and the clock) important against Indians’ explosive pass game.

Battle of Shaker Hill will determine where the two buses roll for Class C South quarterfinals. Patriots have a third chance to clinch first winning season in program’s history. 

Mountain Valley (2-5) at Spruce Mountain (3-4)

In addition to one another, Phoenix and Falcons have eyes on Fryeburg-Lake Region score as they plan their playoff itineraries. Spruce gets back coach Walter Polky and will try to get offense back in gear, as well.

Dirigo (5-2) at Maranacook (4-2)

Cougars hope to enter postseason on five-game winning streak. Black Bears odd-team-out in scramble for quarterfinal home field advantage unless they win. Long drives are the likely story line.

Boothbay (1-5) at Winthrop/Monmouth (4-2)

Strength of schedule and late-game, early-season heroics should ensure No. 2 seed in Class D South for Ramblers. Seahawks’ reward for their lone win is likely trip to Oak Hill.

Lisbon (4-2) at Telstar (0-6)

Saturday, 1:30 p.m.

Rebels made it to the finish, scored points and did it with class under tough circumstances this season. Greyhounds look to stay sharp and healthy on the heels of their most impressive showing of the year against Maranacook.

Oak Hill (6-0) at Traip (2-4)

Saturday, 1:30 p.m.

Raiders own back-to-back state championships, but 1982 team has bragging rights of school’s lone undefeated regular season … for another day or two. Raiders should be locked into top seed, regardless.
