SMYRNA — Maine state police say they responded to three separate crashes that occurred at roughly the same time on the same icy stretch of Interstate 95 northbound in Smyrna.
Authorities say one driver who was thrown from her car when it rolled — 42-year-old Victoria Stewart of Houlton — was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center with serious injuries.
Police say the driver and passenger in a pick-up truck that also rolled over were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. They were identified as 34-year-old Russell Stewart and 33-year-old Stephanie Ivey, both of Hodgdon.
Police say the first driver that spun out Saturday at about 9 p.m. was not injured. Her car hit a guardrail, and wound up in the passing lane facing south.
That stretch of the interstate was closed for about an hour.
