LIVERMORE — Robert Bradley Jr. withdrew his application for road foreman late Monday afternoon, but Board of Selectpersons Chairman Peter Castonguay said he hopes to change Bradley’s mind.

Bradley had second thoughts about taking the job because of the reduced salary and benefits, Administrative Assistant Carrie Castonguay said.

“That is four candidates we lost due to the pay scale,” she told selectpersons at their meeting Monday night when Peter Castonguay learned of Bradley’s decision.

The chairman said he plans to pursue negotiations with Bradley.

The board advertised and interviewed candidates for the position and planned to approve Bradley Jr. at Monday’s meeting.

Castonguay said Bradley told her he would be going back about four years in wages if he accepted the position. He calculated the job’s reduced salary and benefits and just couldn’t do it, she said.

Treasurer Amy Byron said, “We are within $54 of being at budget in the advertising line. It all costs. Think of all the things we have advertised for this year.”

The position opened up when Roger Ferland resigned to take a job at Bailey Bros. Ford in Livermore Falls.
