1925 – 2015
AUBURN — Rudy Allen passed away on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Born in Lewiston on July 15, 1925, he attended school in Durham and Auburn. Rudy enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and proudly served on the USS Incredible 249 minesweeper and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Rudy married Dorothy Lawrence in Hauppauge, N.Y., on Aug. 1, 1953. During his time in New York, Rudy started his lifelong work as a plumber/pipefitter.
He and Dorothy moved back to Maine and Rudy joined UA Local 783 as a pipefitter and dedicated crew supervisor in various mills located throughout Maine and New Hampshire. Rudy was very proud of the hard work he performed as a union worker throughout the years.
Rudy was president of the Royal River Rider Motorcycle Club and local bumper pool club and was an avid bowler and golfer. He enjoyed his time spent with his great-nephews, Bob and Kenny, on local golf courses. Working on classic antique automobiles was his favorite pastime and anything Chrysler, old or new, was his passion. He found great pleasure in seeing his great-grandson, Zach, and great-niece, Karisa, driving Chrysler cars. When he wasn’t tinkering in his workshop, he could be found in spirited games of cribbage with his nephew, Ken.
Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy; grandchildren, Carl Hebert and wife, Beth, Maurice Hebert and wife, Priscilla, and Dianna and husband, Charles D. Nash; five great-grandchildren; nieces, Kathy Hatfield and husband, Al, June Daigle and husband, Ken, Brenda Hinkley and husband, Randy, and Janet Morissette and husband, Leo; nine great-nieces and -nephews and 12 great-great-nieces and -nephews.
Rudy was predeceased by his mother, Myrtis; stepfather, Mark A. Lowell; and his daughter, Linda Allen.
Rudy’s family would like to thank Hospice House on Stetson Road in Auburn for their compassionate care given to Rudy during his illness.
