DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have two bicycles that need minor repair. Is there someone who repairs and then donates bikes to needy children? — Call Ed at 207-240-9520.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am having a hard time finding a bus to go to Foxborough, Mass. this fall to see the New England Patriots. Maybe one of your readers might know of a trip or how I can get a hold of a bus company that could take us down. Thank you very much. Email Mr. Quinn at ETQ@myfairpoint.net.

ANSWER: VIP Charter Coaches has a bus trip planned for Sunday, Oct. 15, for the New England Patriots vs. New York Jets game in Foxborough, Mass. The bus leaves Portland at 8 a.m. and arrives at the stadium approximately two hours before the 1 p.m. game time. The bus leaves 30 minutes after the game ends. The price per person is $55 but does not include the price of the game ticket. They will also take a bus to the Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins game on Oct. 29; the Washington Redskins game on Nov. 8; the Buffalo Bills game on Nov. 23, the Philadelphia Eagles game on Dec. 6; and the Tennessee Titans game on Dec. 20. Any other organization planning trips?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Do you have a recipe for pumpkin whoopie pies? It was published in Sun Spots in 2002. I had saved it, but lost it when I moved. Thanks. — No Name, No Town.

ANSWER: Lois’ luscious pumpkin whoopie pies. Lois Howard combined two separate Amish recipes to get the version she shares with us here. Use either canned or your own prepared-from-scratch pumpkin. Cake ingredients: 2 cups brown sugar; 1 cup vegetable oil; 1½ cups cooked, mashed pumpkin; 2 eggs; 3 cups white, all-purpose flour; 1 teaspoon salt; 1 teaspoon baking powder; 1 teaspoon baking soda; 1 teaspoon vanilla; 1 tablespoon cinnamon; ½ tablespoon ginger; ½ tablespoon ground cloves. Method: Cream sugar and oil. Add pumpkin, eggs and remaining dry ingredients and mix well. Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls onto lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.

Filling ingredients: 12 ounces cream cheese, slightly softened; whites of 2 eggs; ¼ teaspoon vanilla; 2¾ cups powdered sugar, divided. Method: Beat cream cheese, egg whites and vanilla with half of the powdered sugar until blended. Gradually add remaining powdered sugar and continue beating until smooth. Refrigerate at least half an hour before assembling the whoopie pies, using 2 tablespoons of filling per pie. Makes three dozen.
