STRONG — Firefighters, emergency medical providers and private citizens pitched in Thursday to get an injured local logger out of the woods off Lambert Hill Road, Fire Chief Duayne Boyd said.

The logger, whose name Boyd did not know, was notching a tree when a skidder rolled backward and a tire struck his upper leg and hip area, tossed him against another tree and knocked him down, Boyd said.

The logger complained of significant pain in his leg and hip, the fire chief said.

The call came in about 11:45 a.m.

Five firefighters and two NorthStar EMS ambulance personnel rode ATVs or hiked in about a quarter of a mile off Burbank Hill Road, he said. The route was shorter than going in from Lambert Hill Road, which is off Route 149.

The rescuers used a local ATV club’s ATV and trailer, and an ATV provided by another person. Private individuals also helped, he said.

Rescuers carried the logger in a Stokes basket to an ATV trailer, which took him to an ambulance.
