This is in response to a Sun Journal staff report, “Maine Democrats plan to fight to protect Planned Parenthood,” printed Oct. 2. In it, Maine Sen. Dawn Hill, D-Cape Neddick, was quoted as saying in a prepared statement, “Bills targeting Planned Parenthood are nothing more than catnip for the most radical elements of the GOP.”
Hill’s use of the term “catnip” in describing the GOP’s position on Planned Parenthood’s funding is remarkable. Using the guise of attacking women’s health care in response to objections to tax-funded abortions and providing fetal parts to a national organization is the cat playing with a catnip toy.
If there are so many people who agree with Planned Parenthood’s position on their luxury vacations, fetal auctions and abortion, then drop the government funding and raise the funds privately. With so many supporters, it should be easy — unless there really isn’t any catnip involved.
