AUBURN — A Portland judge is expected to meet next month with prosecutors and defense attorneys for three people facing criminal charges related to the Harvest Hill Farm haunted hayride crash in Mechanic Falls nearly a year ago.
The attorneys met Tuesday in Androscoggin County Superior Court with the trial judge to discuss scheduling matters. They agreed to meet Nov. 10 with Superior Court Active-Retired Justice Carl Bradford, who is based in Portland, to discuss possible pretrial settlement of the cases, such as plea agreements, a court clerk said Tuesday.
The corporation, Harvest Hill Farm, is charged with manslaughter, aggravated assault and driving to endanger, all of which are felonies. The company’s owner was not charged.
A driver who worked at the farm and a mechanic were charged with misdemeanors.
A Jeep pulling a flatbed trailer with two dozen passengers lost its brakes and careened down a 300-foot steep path, failed to make a turn and crashed into trees on the night of Oct. 11, 2014, killing 17-year-old Cassidy Charette of Oakland. Other riders suffered broken bones and head, back and neck injuries.
