This is in response to the article about Lewiston Mayor Robert Macdonald’s proposal to publish a list people receiving welfare benefits (Sun Journal, Sept. 25). I have a different suggestion.
Instead of publicizing folks who are getting government benefits, why doesn’t the mayor publicize the names of employers that pay poverty wages that result in the rest of us taxpayers having to give those poorly paid employees food stamps? For example, Walmart. I wonder what he might say to that?
Many folks are working two or three jobs earning poverty wages. They are not the problem. It is the greedy employers all flush with cash. Five Walton family members are now billionaires. Become a billionaire and have other taxpayers subsidize your employees. Go figure.
Only in America.
