RUMFORD — The Regional School Unit 10 board on Monday appointed former social worker Richard Gauvin to serve at Hartford-Sumner Elementary School through December and Terrence MaGee as special education teacher at Pennacook Learning Center.
Directors also approved creating a part-time clerical position to assist with the $7,500 federal nutrition grant awarded to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. The position is for 16 hours per week through the end of the school year.
Advertisements will be placed for a half-time educational technician and a certified teacher for third-grade classes at Rumford and Meroby elementary schools. The intention is to hire the best applicant for one year. There are 54 third-graders at the two schools and only two teachers.
The board announced the Buildings and Grounds Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the Dirigo High School consumer science room in Dixfield. Officials proposed changes for one or more of the 11 district buildings and additional information will likely be made public this fall.
Before the meeting, a reception was held for the nearly 35 new staff members. Superintendent’s secretary Judith Houghton said the number is a little more than usual for the beginning of a new year.
