1922 – 2015

NORWAY — Eleanor A. Maxim, 93, of Norway died Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Norway Center for Health and Rehabilitation.

She was born in Sweden on March 20, 1922, the daughter of Ernest N. and Lucie Stearns Abbott. She received her education in South Paris schools, graduating from Paris High School in 1941.

In her younger years, Eleanor was employed as a secretary-bookkeeper in the office of the Superintendent of Schools, South Paris, for seven years. She later worked several years as a bookkeeper for Emery’s Building Supplies in West Paris.

She married Reino Ruokolainen of Greenwood in 1942. He died in 1984. Later, she married Harold Maxim of South Paris, who passed away in 1994. Her hobbies were gardening, baking, collecting dolls, crocheting and beading gifts for friends and family. She also enjoyed challenging friends to many games of billiards. Eleanor spent one winter in California. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at her niece’s lakeside camp.

She leaves nieces, Pamela Amick of Aguanga, Calif., Darleen Walker of Norway and Lauretta Sanborn of Oxford; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Abbott; and a sister, Pauline Piirainen, both of South Paris.
