LEWISTON — Lewiston native Marc R. Roy announced his bid for the City Council seat in Ward 2.

Ward and opponent Tim Lajoie both seek to fill the seat left by Councilor Don D’Auteuil. D’Auteuil announced earlier this year that he would not seek a second term.

Roy, a 1994 Lewiston High School graduate, has a master’s degree in accounting and financial management from the University of Maryland University College and is a certified public accountant.

He served on active duty in the U.S. Navy for six years and another four in the Navy Reserve.

Roy is also the Treasurer of L/A Arts, a former board member of Museum L-A, and is a member of the adjunct faculty at Central Maine Community College.

“This city is in the middle of a renaissance that’s really exciting,” Roy said in a written statement. “I have been a part of it in some small ways, and now I’m looking to lend a hand at the city level. We’ve come a long way and I want to help ensure that we keep moving forward as a city.”

Roy says his focus is on the continued revitalization of the city, enhancement of the city’s image, and sound stewardship of city assets and taxpayers’ money.

“I currently audit several Maine municipalities and school districts and have, in the process, gained valuable insight into municipal budgeting and finances, and how to responsibly manage taxpayer money,” he wrote. “I believe that my professional expertise, combined with my experiences with local nonprofits, would be helpful to the Council when making decisions on how to best allocate our limited resources.”
