JAY — Two Livermore Falls residents accused of breaking into a home and robbing a 75-year-old man in Jay this summer were arrested for a third time on Tuesday.

Amanda Cote, 38, and her boyfriend, Eric Hafford, 34, both of Livermore Falls, communicated on a jail telephone in violation of a court-ordered no-contact provision, Jay police Detective Michael Mejia said Wednesday.

They and Daniel Leet, 33, of Lewiston were arrested in July on felony robbery and burglary charges. Cote was also arrested on a felony charge of hindering apprehension for prosecution. Hafford and Leet were also arrested on a misdemeanor charge of criminal restraint.

Hafford and Leet are accused of breaking into the man’s residence, tying his hands behind his back and stealing a valuable coin collection, a wallet and a cellphone. Cote is accused of driving the getaway vehicle and helping to plan the robbery, Mejia previously said.

Mejia said Wednesday that police had reason to believe Monday that Cote and Hafford had communicated over a jail phone.

Mejia found that the two had talked to each other multiple times, he said. Phone calls made from a jail phone are recorded.

Livermore Falls police took Cote into custody Tuesday at Mejia’s request. Mejia arrested her on a second charge of felony violation of condition of release. She was being held without bail Wednesday morning on the new charge at the Franklin County jail in Farmington.

Cote was released in August for the second time on a state pre-trial contract agreement after she was arrested on a felony charge of violation of condition of release for communicating with Hafford in writing using altered or fictitious names, according to Mejia. A lawyer entered a denial on her behalf on the state’s motion to revoke her bail in August.

Mejia arrested Hafford at the jail Tuesday on a felony violation of condition of release charge related to having phone contact with Cote, he said. Hafford was initially held on $50,000 cash bail when he was arrested on the robbery-related charges. A Farmington judge added an additional $10,000 cash bail in August for a felony charge of tampering with a witness related to written communications with Cote.

Leet’s bail was set at $25,000 cash after his arrest in July.
