GRAY — Junior forward Josiah Carter converted a free kick with just 36 seconds remaining in the second overtime to lift Gray-New Gloucester to a 1-0 triumph over North Yarmouth in WMC boys’ soccer action Tuesday.

Bryce Hayman contributed an assist on Carter’s game-winning goal.

Goalie Zach Woods made four saves for the Panthers (4-2), while goalie John Henry Villanueva deflected six to earn the shutout win in net for the Patriots (3-2-1).

Gardiner 6, Spruce Mountain 1

JAY — Noah Keene scored a pair of goals in the first half as Gardiner hustled to a 6-1 victory over Spruce Mountain in KVAC boys’ soccer action Tuesday.

Dylan Haskell, Larsson Lunt, Ben Babcock and Casey Bourque also tallied for the Bulldogs to complete the scoring. Brady Walp tallied for the Phoenix in the second frame.

Kenneth Moore made six saves for Gardiner, while Nate Goodine turned aside 10 shots for Spruce Mountain.

St. Dom’s 5, Wiscasset 1

AUBURN — Connor Samson led a group of five players to record goals Tuesday as St. Dom’s ran to to a 5-1 victory over Wiscasset in a KVAC boys’ soccer tilt.

Kyle Welsh, Ben Trytek, Ryan Lutrzykowski and Austin Roy also tallied for the Saints (3-1-1) to complete the scoring. Russell Marr scored the lone goal for winless Wiscasset (0-6) in the second frame.

Alex Michaud made three saves for St. Dom’s, while Sam Strozier turned aside 10 shots for Wiscasset.

Telstar 0, Winthrop 0 (OT)

BETHEL — Despite controlling the ball for much of the game, Telstar failed to get past Winthrop’s tough defense and settled for a 0-0 MVC stalemate Tuesday.

Tanner Wheeler made seven saves for Telstar, while Bailey Baxter and Jackson Ladd combined to deflect 20 shots for Winthrop.

Buckfield 2, Richmond 1

BUCKFIELD — Sidney Jackson netted his second goal of the contest with three minutes remaining to give Buckfield a 2-1 win over Richmond on Tuesday.

Brenden Emmons gave the Bobcats a 1-0 advantage 15 minutes into the game.

Leavitt 3, Morse 2

TURNER — Noah Lind came up big for Leavitt on Tuesday, scoring two goals and providing an assist as his squad snuck past Morse, 3-2, in a KVAC boys’ soccer tilt.

Evan Clark also tallied for the Hornets (3-3-1) to complete the scoring. Jacob Brochu and Dakota Freeman each found the net for Morse (2-4) in a solid effort.

Lucas Perry made nine saves for Leavitt, while Alex Fernald turned aside five shots between the posts for Morse.

Poland 3, Sacopee Valley 1

SOUTH HIRAM — Patrick Kuklinski recorded the eventual game-winning goal as Poland dropped Sacopee Valley 3-1 in boys’ soccer action Tuesday afternoon.

Devin Day scored the first goal of the game for the Hawks. Will Goforth assisted on the goal.

Nate Choinard tied the game at 1-1 for the Knights. And, Tom Flint added an insurance goal for Poland in the winning effort.

Girls’ soccer

Richmond 5, Buckfield 1

BUCKFIELD — Meranda Martin and Kelsea Anair netted two goals apiece Tuesday as Richmond overpowered Buckfield, 5-1, in an EWC girls’ soccer matchup.

Caitlin Kendrick also tallied for the Bobcats (5-1) to complete the scoring. Brianna Damon scored the Bucks’ (5-1) lone goal in the second half.

Sydney Tilton made four saves for Richmond, while Brianna Damon and Hannah Shields combined to deflect 20 shots between the posts for Buckfield.

Leavitt 2, Morse 2 (2OT)

BATH — Leavitt and Morse played to a 2-2 double overtime tie in KVAC girls’ soccer action Tuesday afternoon.

Junior midfielder Victoria DeCoster saved the Hornets (2-1-4) from defeat by booting the ball past the goalie with just two seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 2-2 for Leavitt.

Senior striker Emma Rossetti put the first points on the board just 10 seconds into the contest by guiding the ball from the kickoff to the cage for the Shipbuilders.

Edward Little 6, Lawrence 0

FAIRFIELD — Senior striker Emily Jacques provided three goals and an assist to lead Edward Little to a 6-0 shutout victory over Lawrence in KVAC girls’ soccer action Tuesday.

The Red Eddies (2-3-2) dominated on offense, scoring three goals in each half. Sophomore striker Piper Norcross matched Jacques with three goals of her own for Edward Little.

Field hockey

Edward Little 5, Mt. Ararat 1

TOPSHAM — Elizabeth Bellman converted a pair of goals — the second on a penalty stroke — and Jasmine Wyman added two more as Edward Little ran away from Mt. Ararat 5-1 in a KVAC field hockey tilt on Tuesday.

Bellman scored both of her goals in the first half before Mt. Ararat’s Meaghan Thomas cut the Red Eddies’ (7-1-0) lead in half with the lone Eagles (3-4-1) tally.

Wyman followed with her two goals before halftime. Kiara Fournier knocked the ball past Mt. Ararat keeper Haley Frizzle (13 saves) in the second half to complete the scoring.

York 5, Gray-New Gloucester 1

GRAY — Lily Posternak and Alexandra Jones each netted two goals to propel York to a 5-1 win over Gray-New Gloucester in a WMC field hockey tilt Tuesday.

Devin Datsis also tallied for the undefeated Wildcats (8-0) to complete the scoring. Alie Martell scored for the Patriots (5-4) in the second half.

Mt. Blue 9, Lewiston 0

LEWISTON — Abby Wallace registered a hat trick Tuesday to lead Mt. Blue to a 9-0 win over Lewiston in a field hockey matchup.

Hannah Minns chipped in for the Cougars (4-3) with two goals, while single tallies from Adelle Foss, Rebecca Harmon, Leah St. Laurent and Hannah LeClair completed the scoring.

Arika McArthur didn’t need a single save to notch the shutout, while Kaylyn LaBonte did a yeoman’s job for the Blue Devils (1-7) with 27 saves in the contest.

College field hockey

Dumond Leads St. Joseph’s Past Southern Maine 2-1

GORHAM – Lewiston native Kelsey Dumond scored a goal in each half to lead St. Joseph’s College to a 2-1 win over the University of Southern Maine in a non-conference field hockey game Tuesday.

With the win, the Monks extend their winning streak to four games and improve to 4-1 overall. St. Joseph’s has not lost since dropping its season-opener 3-2 to Husson University. Southern Maine drops its second straight game to fall to 4-5.

Dumond scored the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute to putting the Monks (4-1) ahead 1-0. After receiving a pass from senior Meghan Williams, Dumon launched a hard and high driven shot that ricocheted off of the padded hand of Southern Maine junior goalie Amanda Kasbohm.

The Monks’ lead was short-lived, however, as the Huskies surged back to tie the game in the 25th minute. Huskies’ senior captain Allison Ward laced in her fourth goal of the season after receiving an insertion pass from sophomore Kaitlin Hilton on a penalty corner to send both teams into the break tied at one goal each.

In the second half, the game seemed destined for overtime with the score locked at one all in the 64th minute. The Monks, however, benefitted from a series of four penalty corners before Dumond connected on her second goal of the game and eighth of the season in the 66th minute. Dumond’s game-winner was an unassisted tally as she collected a rebounded ball in front of the cage.

The game was evenly played between the two local rivals with St. Joseph’s holding a slim 11-10 advantage in shots and an 11-9 edge in penalty corners. Kasbohm finished the game making seven saves in the loss. Huskies’ (4-5) sophomore Tayla Smedberg made a defensive save. St. Joseph’s freshman Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine) played strong in net making three saves and several key plays. Senior Chelsea Bordeau had a defensive save for the Monks.
