1926 – 2015

ANDOVER — Evelyn M. Ellis, 89, of Dixfield, went to live with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 12, with her loving niece, Tammy Hutchinson, by her side.

She was born in Sabattus on June 3, 1926, the daughter of Albert and Lillian (Drinkwater) Heywood, and attended Sabattus schools.

Evelyn was a machine operator at Stowell-McGregor Dowell Mill in Dixfield for over 20 years. She was a member of the Dixfield American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.

Evelyn was married to Francis L. Shaw on Aug. 26, 1944, and they had two children; he died on May 11, 1949. She was married to William James Ellis on July 26, 1952, in Dixfield and he died on May 23, 1986. She later had a companion, Harold Buker, who died in July 2008.

Survivors include daughter, Sheila Fischer and husband, Don, of Sandwich, Mass.; granddaughter, Wendy O’Donnell and husband, Pat; great-granddaughter, Molly; granddaughter, Joyce Johnson and husband, Keith; great-granddaughter, Danielle; and great-grandson, Nicholas Johnson, all of Barnstable, Mass.; grandson, Rodney Bachelder and wife, Lisa; and great-granddaughters, Samantha and Cassandra of Portsmouth, N.H.; great-grandson, Rodney Bachelder Jr.; grandson, John Bachelder and wife, Julie; great-grandsons, Bret, Randy and Jonathan; and great-granddaughters, Shawna and Seahona, all of New Hampshire; grandson, Wayne Bachelder; and great-granddaughter, Cadence Bachelder of Bangor; a loving granddaughter, Sherry Lee Bachelder, who lovingly helped with her end of life care and her fiance, Noah, of New Hampshire; a sister, Wilma Holmes and husband, Larry, of Andover; a brother, Albert Heywood of Lewiston; nieces, Vickie Taylor of Rumford, Christie Phelps and husband, Eddie, of Cross, S.C., Tammy Hutchinson and husband, Harry, of Andover, and Charlene and Deborah Heywood of Lewiston; and nephews, Cameron Taylor and wife, Kathi Bliss Taylor, of Lewiston, John Heywood of Lewiston, and Larry Heywood of Bangor.

She was predeceased by husbands, Francis L. Shaw and William J. “Bill” Ellis; companion, Harold Buker; daughters, Frances E. and Sherry L. Shaw; and nephew, John A. Holmes.
