FARMINGTON — United Way of the Tri-Valley Area has launched a Community Energy Challenge for the heating season. The organization is seeking volunteers to build interior storm windows and qualifying homeowners or renters who want free window panels.
United Way is offering workshops for volunteers from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays through Nov. 21 at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church. No workshop on Oct. 10. A potluck lunch is served at every workshop. No experience is required.
Interior storm window panels keep heat inside homes during the harsh winter months and encourage homeowners to make positive changes in energy consumption.
Those who receive fuel assistance may qualify for up to six free interior storm window panels that are customized to fit their windows.
Panels costs $1.50 per foot. The panels will pay for themselves in energy saved within the first heating season.
Interior storm window panels are available to households in Franklin County, Livermore, Livermore Falls, North New Portland, New Portland, Starks and Vienna.
