AUBURN — A local man was arrested and charged in connection with a high-speed chase on Center Street early Sunday morning.
Maine State Police Trooper Ricci Cote spotted Jarryd King, 23, of 109 Harvard St., suspecting he was driving drunk and tried to make a traffic stop, according to a Maine State Police Facebook posting.
King pulled his vehicle into the parking lot of a Cumberland Farms and slowed as if to stop, but quickly accelerated out of the lot and fled on North River Road, according to police.
Cote pursued King, who “accelerated to a very high and reckless rate of speed,” then left the roadway and crashed, the posting said.
Cote arrested King and observed, “he was highly impaired from alcohol and drugs.”
King’s vehicle was towed and King was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for a complaint of back pain from the crash.
Results of a test for blood alcohol content are pending.
King, who had been driving with a suspended driver’s license, had 14 active suspensions, according to the post.
After he was cleared from the hospital, King was taken to Androscoggin County Jail at 4:19 a.m. on Sunday and charged with eluding an officer, operating under the influence and operating after suspension. He was released after posting $500 cash bail.
