LIVERMORE FALLS — A vehicle reported stolen from the Leeds Road on Sunday morning was found overturned in Wilson Pond in Wayne on Sunday night.
The owner of a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am awoke to find the vehicle missing and called Livermore Falls Police Department at 7:49 a.m., Police Chief Ernie Steward Jr. said. The vehicle was last seen at about 10 p.m. Saturday.
After issuing search notifications to other police departments Sunday, state police called at about 10 p.m. Sunday to report the vehicle was found upside down in the pond, Steward said.
The car, estimated to be worth $3,000, was demolished.
The crew from No Preference Wrecker Service in Readfield, who pulled the vehicle out of the lake, told Steward that judging by the damage, the car probably struck a guardrail before going into the lake. The lake is near the Wayne-Winthrop line, he said.
State Police Trooper Jed Malcore investigated at the scene and Livermore Falls Police Lt. Sage will follow up.
