DURHAM, N.H. —  Courtney Anderson of Greene, who led Leavitt to a Class B girls’ basketball championship and helped anchor the resurgence of the University of Maine women’s basketball program, has been named director of basketball operations at the University of New Hampshire.

New Hampshire coach Maureen Magarity announced the hiring Monday.

“We are thrilled to add Courtney to the staff,” Magarity said. “She has tremendous enthusiasm and passion for the game. Her relentless work ethic on the court and familiarity with the America East Conference makes her a perfect fit for the position.”

Anderson is reunited with her sister, Kristen, who is a junior guard for the Wildcats.

Coaching and basketball administration have been part of Anderson’s future plans throughout college. She was one of one of 58 chosen to participate in last year’s “So You Want To Be A Coach” program, sponsored by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, a workshop held in conjunction with the Final Four in Tampa, Fla., this past April.

A four-year letter-winner at the University of Maine, Anderson graduated in May with a degree in elementary education.

She played in 114 games during her collegiate career, leading the Black Bears to a WNIT berth last season with a 23-9 overall record and 14-2 in America East play as Maine’s lone senior.

Starting in 60 games as a Black Bear, Anderson was a career 76.2 percent free throw shooter and shot 30 percent from beyond the 3-point arc. In her sophomore season, the guard played in 27 games and started in 23, averaging a career-high 7.1 points on the year.

Anderson was a four-time honoree on the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Tabbed as a Maine Scholar-Athlete rising star in her freshman year, she also earned bronze and silver medals as a Maine Scholar Athlete her sophomore and junior year. Anderson was one of 13 new members to be inducted into the All-Maine Women Honor Society, which identifies outstanding women of the rising senior class who exhibit leadership, scholarship and service to the University and campus community.

Leavitt won its title in 2011, when Courtney was a senior and Kristen a sophomore, completing a 23-0 season with a 49-37 victory over Nokomis. The Andersons’ mother, Tammy, coached the Hornets.
