Spruce Mountain 30, Lake Region 21

NAPLES — The turnover bug bit the Spruce Mountain football team again Friday night, but this time the Phoenix built a big enough first-half lead to hold off Lake Region, 30-21, in Class C South.

Dillon Webster rushed for 160 yards, a touchdown and three two-point conversions to lead Spruce Mountain (1-1), which overcame four interceptions and two lost fumbles.

Austin Henault answered the initial touchdown by Lake Region (0-2) with a 73-yard kick return touchdown to give the Phoenix  a 24-7 halftime lead.

Caulin Parker also rushed for two scores and picked off a pass defensively to spark Spruce. James Ouellette made a dozen tackles.

YARMOUTH — Mountain Valley was within a touchdown and had possession early in the second quarter Friday night, but Yarmouth stymied the series and rolled thereafter to a 40-14 Class C South football win.

Kyle Farrar returned an interception 95 yards for a touchdown to make it 13-7.

“And then we got the ball back, but we just couldn’t do anything,” Mountain Valley coach Steve LaPointe said. “They were too tough defensively.”

The Clippers (2-0) also presented plenty of firepower with the football in hand. Cody Cook and Jack Snyder each had two scores.

Dylan Gaudet collected the second TD for the Falcons (0-2) on a 3-yard run in the final minute.

Cape Elizabeth 47, Poland 6

CAPE ELIZABETH — Cape Elizabeth scored four touchdowns in the first quarter Friday night and Poland never recovered in a 47-6 Class C South loss at Hannaford Field.

The Knights (1-1) averted the shutout with a touchdown in the fourth.
