1930 – 2015

NORWAY — Dorothy S. Cyr, 85, of South Paris, passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

Dorothy was born in Portland on March 1, 1930, a daughter of Burton A. and Ruth E. (Carroll) Shaw. She attended Norway schools and graduated from Norway High School. She later graduated from Lesley College in Cambridge, attaining her degree in education.

She taught school in Ohio and Guatemala, but spent most of her career teaching at the Mildred M. Fox School in South Paris.

She married Norman R. Cyr in May 1958 and was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church of Norway.

Dot loved listening to jazz and dancing. After their retirement, Dot and Norman traveled all over the world for many years.

She is predeceased by her husband, who died on Feb. 7, 2013; and her sister, Priscilla VanHorn.

She leaves behind two daughters, Jo Cyr-Mutty and her husband, Paul, of Deerfield, Mass., and Susan Cyr of Las Vegas; a son, Robb Cyr of San Francisco, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Sarah Cyr-Mutty of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Aaron Cyr-Mutty of Claremont, Calif.
