FARMINGTON — The fourth annual Bringing Worlds Together Conference for Veterans, Family Members and Community will be held at the University of Maine at Farmington from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19.

The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Peter E. Bauer, a United Church of Christ minister for more than 34 years.

Bauer is also a licensed clinical social worker, a licensed marriage and family therapist, a board approved supervisor for both LCSW, LMFT and a licensed chemical dependency counselor. Bauer works for the Department of Veterans Affairs Frank Tejada Outpatient Clinic and teaches as an adjunct professor in the Department of Social Work at the University of Texas. He’s had extensive experience working with active duty service members, veterans and their families, as well as a wide range of spiritual-based organizations.

Kevin Mannix will be the featured speaker.

Hosted by Tri-County Mental Health Services with support from the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area and Bank of America, the conference will feature nine different workshops on topics ranging from confronting post-traumatic stress disorder and marijuana and public health, to “Boots to Business” and suicide prevention.

Tri-County Mental Health Services is committed to building a strong network of support in local communities for military veterans and their family members, whether they served decades ago or recently.

The agency is host to Jerry DeWitt, a Vietnam-era veteran, a driving force in the outreach and conference planning.

“This conference will show the many paths each of us might take to find our way back home from service life to civilian life,” he said.
