I believe that the current proficiency-based learning grading system at Lewiston High School won’t have a positive impact for sophomores this coming school year.

After the past school year, the PBL grading system put more than half of the freshman class of 2018 in summer school because the teachers didn’t grade the students well. I believe that was because the teachers didn’t understand the system.

The same thing will happen with the teachers for this year’s sophomores. Some of the teachers who taught the freshmen last year are moving up to teach the sophomores, but some of the teachers who taught last year and are teaching this year don’t understand the PBL grading system, so the same thing that happened last year will happen again this school year.
