JAY — A NorthStar EMS ambulance hit a tractor-trailer on the way to a medical call Friday, according to Jay police Detective Michael Mejia.
Both vehicles were stopped in road construction on Route 4, near AMVETS, with just one travel lane, he said. The truck stayed put when traffic was allowed to go so the ambulance, which had its emergency lights on, could answer a medical call in Jay, he said.
The ambulance did not give enough clearance when it attempted to go around the truck and struck the left rear side of the trailer at about 10:41 a.m., he said.
The driver of the ambulance, Abbie Shamp, 31, of Strong, her passenger Virginia Blais, 53, of Dixfield and the driver of the truck, Charles Carter, 41, of West Baldwin were checked out at the scene, Mejia said.
The truck is owned by Schneider National, headquartered in Green Bay, Wis. It received minor damage.
The ambulance affiliated with Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington received moderate damage, Mejia said.
Officer Stephanie Guillemette was assisted at the scene by Mejia and Jay firefighters.
