1931 – 2015
RUMFORD — Maxine E. Gilbert, 84, of Front Street passed away on Saturday, Aug. 15, at Rumford Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in Rumford on July 6, 1931, a daughter of Oral and Myrna (Rand) Brown.
Maxine was educated in Dixfield and Mexico schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1949.
She married Wilbur Gilbert on July 25, 1953. Together, they celebrated 49 years of marriage. He passed away in 2002.
Maxine was employed at Diamond Match Co. for several years.
After her children were grown, she was employed at Zayre and Ames in the fabric department.
Maxine loved sewing, knitting, cooking and bowling with the Bomberettes Tuesday morning league for many years. She also loved spending time at her camp on Garland Pond.
Surviving are her children, Douglas L. Gilbert and wife, Donna, of Dixfield, William F. Gilbert and wife, Margaret, of Rumford, James B. Gilbert and wife, Danita, of Wilton, and Jeffrey S. Gilbert and wife, Stacey, of Rumford, sisters; Phyllis Chaisson of Mexico, and Betty Salatino of Rumford; 12 grandchildren, Peter, Derrick, Deidre, David, Amy, Sara, Abbey, Alex, Lauren, Michael, Alexis and Trent; and four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, Madeline and Donovan.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wilbur; daughter, Deborah; and brother, Malcolm Rand.
