NORTH FRYEBURG — James H. Day Jr., 67, of North Fryeburg found peace on Sunday, Aug. 9.

The son of James and Nettie, he grew up in Stow with his five sisters. He did not wander far from his roots and found joy in his surroundings. His biggest joy in life was his family.

The best of times were spent pursuing simple activities, like sharing a meal with family and friends, laughing, playing cards, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and spending time in the woods. James was a family man, loyal to those he loved. Raising his children, James (Jamie), Lesa, Jenna and Brian (BJ) was a responsibility he took seriously and he never stopped being a parent — he was always present and available whenever they needed him. As time went by, he was blessed with three wonderful grandsons, Walker, Hunter and Archer. He shared a special bond with each of them.

James is survived by his wife, Anita. Their marriage was filled with much love. With love comes loss, and James and Anita struggled with the loss of their son, BJ. This was a burden he carried the rest of his life. They were thankful for the time they were given and felt fortunate to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary this past May, an event celebrated as many had been before — surrounded by family and friends.

James leaves many behind who will remember him as a kind, caring, strong, independent man. Those who shared time with him in his life mourn his passing.

Close family includes sisters, Mary (who predeceased him) and husband, Hank Rolfe, Georgie and husband, Dana Stevens, Betty and husband, Bart Bachman, Nancy Day, and Christie and husband, David McCormack. James felt blessed to have Edie, wife of James, and Mike Miller, husband of Jenna, join his family. It should be mentioned that James found great joy in having brothers through marriage — these men became his friends as well as brothers. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention.

A special thank-you goes out to his friends who shared time with him as he completed his final journey — Marilyn, Dennis, Ronnie, Barbara and Alan — thank you. I know I have forgotten some and apologize — please know he truly enjoyed seeing each and every one of you.

James’ family wants to send a special thank-you to “Jessie” (Jessica) from Beacon Hospice — you were there for him every step of the way.
