SCARBOROUGH — George R. Leavitt, 88, died Sunday, Aug. 2, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. He resided in Peru.
Born in Mexico on July 30, 1927, he was a son of George and Lula (Boyle) Leavitt. He was a graduate of Mexico High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
George worked as a meat cutter for First National Store and Paul’s Food Center of Portland. He was a member of the Meat Cutters Union.
He was married in Dixfield on Sept. 15, 2013, to Jane Greene of Portland, who survives him. Other survivors include six daughters, Jacky Swindler and her husband, Darel, of Raymond, Robyn L. Leavitt of Canaan, Leigh A. Quinn of Westbrook, Lisa Bilodeau and her husband, Bruce, of Lewiston, Wendy Ohlson of Allentown, Pa., and Coreen Lauren of Portland; three sons, Stephen Leavitt and his wife, Sharon, of Woodbine, Md., James Griffin of Portland, and Robert George Leavitt of South Portland; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Stephen Leavitt of Dixfield, Gerald Arthur Leavitt of Peru and Robert Boyle of Peru.
He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Leavitt; and a sister, Ethel Pepin.
