1932 – 2015
JAY — Madeline “Maddy” Ada Ranger, 83, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Sandy River Center in Farmington, where she had resided since 2006.
She was born on June 17, 1932, at home in Dryden, the daughter of Claris and Rose (Belanger) Ranger. She attended school in Wilton and graduated from Wilton Academy in the Class of 1951.
Maddy worked at the G.H. Bass shoe company for over 36 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Turtle Club and the Farmington Emblem Club. She served as a den mother for the Wilton Cub Scout Pack 108.
In her early years, she played the drums in her high school band and later on, played for a local dance band. She loved music and all types of dancing, from clogging to square dancing, and performing pantomimes. Maddy’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Sandy River Center for the excellent care provided to Maddy.
She is survived by her two sons, Clifford Ranger of Jay, and Claris Ranger and wife, Roberta, of Wilton; her two sisters, Marion Durrell and husband, Kenneth (Spider), of Farmington, and Ruby Allen of Farmington; her granddaughters, Celena Ranger of Turner, April Ranger-Caron of Wilton, Renee O’Rourke and husband, Bill, of Tewksbury, Mass., and Abigail Ranger of Richmond; her grandson, Ken Ranger of Jay; and her great-granddaughters, Alison Laverdiere of Turner, Kendra Caron of Wilton and Brianna Caron of Wilton.
She was predeceased by her parents, Claris and Rose Ranger; her brother, Robert Ranger; her sisters, Louise Sawyer and Lorraine Viers; and her brother-in-law, Johnny Allen.
