1950 – 2015

PORTLAND — Larry D. Delehanty, 64, of Lewiston passed away unexpectedly at Maine Medical Center in Portland on Saturday, July 25.

He was born in Lewiston on Sept. 5, 1950, a son of Tobias and Betty (Brown) Delehanty. He attended local schools and graduated from Lewiston High School before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force and serving his country for seven years in Vietnam. After serving his country, he went to work at Bath Iron Works as a welder and tin knocker and remained there for more than 30 years.

Larry was a private person who enjoyed living off the land through the gardens that he frequently grew. He kept to himself and could often be found working on his English and Italian motorcycles or his 1973 Camaro at his home. He was a coin collector and enjoyed going out with his metal detector to search for buried treasures. He lived in the home that was hand-built by his father, where he raised geese that many people from Lewiston will remember.

He is survived by his son, Zachary, his wife, Melissa Delehanty, and their daughter, Meredith of Auburn; and a brother, Ronald Delehanty of Lewiston.

He was predeceased by his parents.
