Higley said Mary Newall, 41, of Andover was driving west on Andover Road in a 2003 Buick. He said she made a left turn south onto Ellis River Road, and failed to yield right of way to a 1997 dump truck driven by Floyd Emerson, 70, of Andover.
Higley said Emerson told him that he was following the road north when he saw Newall’s Buick fail to stop, and proceed to turn in front of him. Emerson attempted to stop and left skid marks for 129 feet. His dump truck and Newall’s Buick collided and came to rest on the shoulder of the west side of the intersection.
Higley said Emerson wasn’t injured, but Newall suffered an incapacitating injury. She was taken by Med-Care Ambulance to Rumford Hospital where Higley cited Newall on charges of operating after suspension and violating conditions of release. She will be arraigned on Sept. 14 in 11th District Court.
Newall’s Buick was towed due to disabling damage to the center driver’s side. Emerson’s dump truck had functional damage to the front. Also damaged were the lawn and bushes owned by Bruce Hutchins of 281 Andover Road in Rumford.
