DIXFIELD — Town Manager Carlo Puiia said Thursday afternoon that Dixfield homeowners can expect to see a decrease in their property tax rate in the upcoming fiscal year.

Puiia said that the town’s 2015/2016 property tax rate was set at $20.40 per $1,000 of value, down from the $20.80 per $1,000 valuation that was set during the 2014/2015 fiscal year.

“The average homeowner in Dixfield will see their bill drop from $2,152 to $2,111, or approximately two percent,” Puiia said. “That breaks down to a distribution of $1,101.52 for education costs to RSU 10, $937.50 for their municipal services, and $71.99 for their share of Oxford County taxes.”

Puiia said that the town’s property tax bills will be mailed next week, with the first due date scheduled for Sept. 15, and the second due on April 15, 2016.

“Payments after the due dates will be subject to interest at seven percent,” Puiia said.

He added that residents also have the opportunity to sign up for the town’s Tax Club, which “allows homeowners to make and schedule payments without interest being charged, provided they do not have any outstanding tax obligations and make payments on time.”

Payments are calculated by dividing the total tax bill into ten payments, with the first payment being due in August.

Puiia said that residents must apply prior to Sept. 15 if they are interested in participating in the payment plan.
