AUBURN — An elderly driver was taken to the hospital but nobody else was injured after she drove her station wagon into the side of a Center Street sign store Saturday afternoon.
Auburn Police Lieutenant Anthony Harrington said 75-year-old Janice Sites, of Lewiston, drove her gold 1999 Ford Taurus station wagon into the side of the Sign Store and Flag Center at 325 Center St. at about 3 p.m. Friday.
The apparent cause was an unknown medical issue. Sites was taken to the hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. Three small dogs riding in the car with her were given to family members.
Dave Morgan, store owner, said he’d closed two hours earlier and was catching up on some work when the car hit the side of his building, knocking down a shelf full of flags near the entrance.
“I was sitting there and heard a big bang,” Morgan said. “There was big crash and that shelf fell over and some of the flags fell off of the ceiling. It scared the crap out of me.”
