1955 – 2015

LEWISTON — Chris D. “Hoss” Dampier passed away on Wednesday, July 8, at Central Maine Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

Chris was born on July 30, 1955, and raised in Malone, N.Y., where he graduated in 1973 from Franklin Academy. He moved to Maine with his family in 1984.

Chris had a very positive outlook on life and an incredible sense of humor. He always had a funny story or joke he loved to share and could always make you laugh, even in the worst of times.

Chris had a real appreciation for the arts. Being a very talented and creative artist himself, he worked mostly doing leathercraft and wood carvings. He loved listening to the blues, or “the good stuff,” he’d say. Most of all, he loved his family and taking them out whenever possible. He especially enjoyed going to see his favorite local blues band, the Juke Joint Devils. Chris had his Class A license and drove trucks for several trucking companies.

He will be missed greatly by all those lucky enough to have known him.

Chris was predeceased by his parents, William and Frances Dampier.

He is survived by his wife, Alberta Dampier; five daughters, Tammy Dampier and husband, Billy Dampier of New Hampshire, Angel Bonner, Chandal Dampier, Dawn Chadburn and Karen Chadburn, all of Maine; four grandchildren, Brittany and Taylor Dampier of New Hampshire, and Brandon and Benjamin Kennagh of Maine. He is also survived by three brothers and two sisters, Bill Dampier and wife, Paulie, of New York, Michael Dampier and longtime companion, Farah, of Arizona, Brian Dampier and wife, Naty, of Florida, Renee Reksc and husband, Stan, and Suzanne Rugar, all of New York; along with many nieces and nephews.
