JAY — The Planning Board took no action Tuesday on a shoreland zoning permit application for a proposed junkyard and automobile recycling business but set a visit to review the former Otis Mill site, Code Enforcement Officer Ronda Palmer said.
Selectpersons have been invited to visit the site at 10 a.m. July 27, she said. The Board of Selectpersons will hold a public hearing on the company’s permit applications at 6 p.m. July 27 at the Town Office.
Clark’s Cars & Parts, doing business as Riverside Scrap, proposes to set up a scrap metal recycling and storage facility at the north end of the former paper mill property. Some parts of the operation are proposed within the 250-foot shoreland zoning setback area. The property borders the Androscoggin River.
MAC Development LLC, the new owner of the former Otis Ventures LLC mill property, has formal intentions to lease a 4-acre parcel to Clark’s Cars & Parts. John Clark III of Farmingdale is a principal of MAC Development and owns several scrap metal recycling companies, including Clark’s Cars & Parts.
The site will serve as an export/shipping hub for all Clark’s locations, according to the permit application.
The company’s intent is to install two concrete storage slabs and extend the rail line into the property for use. There are also plans to use an existing building for material storage.
The shoreland zoning application will go before the Planning Board again at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Town Office, Palmer said. The company also must obtain and flood plain permit.
