LEWISTON — An Auburn city councilor seeking re-election was acquitted of an assault charge last spring, according to court records.

Leroy Walker, 66, of 41 Broad St., represents Ward 5 in Auburn. He is seeking a third term.

Walker was charged in January with assaulting a female bystander stemming from an altercation with a man at the New Auburn Social Club at 7 Second St. He also was charged with refusing to sign a criminal summons. Both charges are misdemeanors.

An 8th District Court judge found Walker not guilty of assault after an April bench trial.

Walker pleaded no contest to the other charge and was fined $150, according to court records.
