NEWBURYPORT, Mass. — A Turner man is in custody after his pickup truck crashed into an Amesbury used car lot.

Gage Ashbaugh, 41, was held on $2,500 cash bail on charges of driving while under the influence of drugs, heroin possession and wanton destruction of property worth less than $250, according to the Daily News of Newburyport.

According to the Amesbury police report, officers responded to reports of a loud bang at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday at Auto Plus on Macy Street. Officers said they found Ashbaugh passed out in a black pickup truck that crashed into a fence and a parked car. The car was pushed into another vehicle.

Police searched the truck and found a small bag containing a brown powdery substance they believed to be heroin with an uncapped needle, a spoon and a napkin.

Ashbaugh’s attorney said his client was a fisherman who drove from Maine to Boston for work each day. He is due back in court July 17 for a pretrial hearing.
