This is in response to a Sun Journal story, “Truck driver to get 2 percent raise” (June 30).

I feel foolish writing about it, almost as foolish as the Sun Journal must have felt writing the story and even more foolish than the Livermore Board of Select Persons for discussing giving a loyal, hard-working driver a meager 2-percent raise. That is like going to a store and asking for penny candy.

Will truck driver Randall Tirrell get another 2-percent raise next year? I think not.

If he is a good driver, I would encourage him to look for a job elsewhere.

Low pay is why people can’t have a good living. Officials won’t give people a decent raise for a job well done.
