1936 – 2015

MILLINOCKET — Ruel “Rudy” Leavitt, 78, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, with his family by his side.

He was born Sept. 4, 1936, in Phillips, the son of Phyllis and Maurice Leavitt. He graduated from Phillips High School in 1954 and was a member of the starting five of the 1953 State Champion Basketball Team.

He married Ernestine (Petie) Wells in 1955. Together, they had four children.

Rudy was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Red Sox, the Celtics and the Cowboys. He loved fishing, hunting, golfing, camp, playing cards, cribbage, coaching the Elks softball teams (on which he was a team player for many years), and he especially enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing sports. He enjoyed family and friends most of all.

He is survived by his children, Debbie Hebert and husband, David, Kathy Cormier and husband, Richard, Barry Leavitt and wife, Lorrie, and Paula Rouillard and husband, Ron; his brothers, Raymond and Tont; sister, Linda; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, with Baby Rouillard due in October!

He was predeceased by his wife; his parents; and his stepfather, Leo Bolduc.
