YARMOUTH — Tyler Technologies has submitted a conceptual plan to the Planning Board to build offices for about 575 new employees by 2024.

The Plano, Texas-based, software company has offices on Tyler Drive and on Route 1 in Falmouth, which together employ 525 people. The company wants to build a four-story addition of almost 85,000 square feet in Yarmouth.

Town Manager Nat Tupper, who is acting as the town planner until a new one is hired, said the company’s addition would have a positive impact on the town.

“It would add to our tax base and would have a spin-off effect on other businesses,” he said.

Tupper said he wants to remain neutral for now as town planner, but believes the proposal is something the Town Council will support.

“This is the kind of development they’ve indicated they’ve wanted,” he said.

According to the preliminary application submitted by architect John Mitchell of Portland-based Mitchell & Associates, the addition is being proposed to “keep up with (Tyler’s) projected growth in revenue.”

“Tyler Technologies is proposing a new modern office addition to satisfy their recent expansion of products within the computer software market,” Mitchell said in the application. “These expansions mean new staff, and therefore, new office space in which to make these expansions a reality.”

The company, which had revenue of $493 million last year and employs 3,100 people across the country, said the expansion would grow the number of local jobs to 1,100 over the next 10 years.

“The new positions would primarily be professional and technical in nature,” the application said.

The publicly owned company creates software products for government and schools, including enterprise resource planning, payroll and human resources, public safety, courts, vital records, tax appraisal, student information and transportation. The company’s resource planning and school divisions are based in Yarmouth.

The Planning Board will review the preliminary application at its July 22 meeting, but no action will be taken. The board will only provide the company with feedback about how it can move forward.

When Tyler Technologies is ready, it can come back to the board for the formal review process and a vote.
