WATERVILLE — The state fire marshal’s office has charged two people in connection with a pair of carnival ride accidents in Waterville earlier this month.
Arthur Gillette, 49, of Pittsfield, Mass., the ride supervisor for Smokey’s Greater Shows, and Jeannette Gilmore, 61, of Strong, the company’s owner, will appear in court Sept. 22 in Augusta, according to Sgt. Ken Grimes.
Gillette is facing a charge of falsifying physical evidence and Gilmore is accused of failure to train a mechanical ride operator, Grimes said.
The accidents occurred on June 12 and June 13 while Smokey’s Greater Shows, which travels throughout New England, was making a stop in Waterville, Grimes said.
On June 12, a mechanical accident involving the Dragon Wagon ride injured three children, and on June 13, a rider on a mechanical swing ride was not properly secured and fell out of the chair during the ride, Grimes said.
