LEWISTON — The Department of Corrections on Monday confirmed the death of a Lewiston inmate at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham.
According to a written release from Deputy Commissioner Jody Breton, Jeppie Phillips, 51, of Lewiston, died at approximately 2:30 a.m. Monday.
His last known address, according to court records, was 117 Pierce St.
Following DOC policy and Attorney General’s Office protocols, the state police and the state’s chief medical examiner were notified. Both are reviewing the death.
At the time of his death, Phillips had served approximately seven weeks of a nine-month and one-day sentence for operating after habitual offender revocation, with two prior convictions.
According to court records, on Aug. 22, 2014, Phillips was operating his vehicle in Auburn after his license had been revoked. Within the prior 10-year period, he had prior convictions of operating after habitual offender revocation, once on Oct. 29, 2009, and again April 27, 2010.
According to state Bureau of Motor Vehicle records, Phillips had a history of driving convictions, including multiple convictions of operating without a license and operating after suspension.
