CANTON — Selectmen are looking for a resident to serve on the town’s new Regional School Unit 10 Withdrawal Committee.

On Thursday night, they appointed all but that member to the committee, which will work with legal counsel to craft a withdrawal agreement and negotiate with RSU 10’s superintendent and school board.

Donny Hutchins was appointed as the selectman, Faith Campbell as the school board member and Natalie Sneller as a Withdrawal Committee member.

Selectman Russell Adams said if any residents are interested in serving on the committee, they should contact officials at the town office or selectmen.

In other municipal news, selectmen unanimously voted to sign the Hartford fire contract. Buckfield, Canton and Turner fire departments provide fire protection services for Hartford for a set rate that increased more than $2,000 over last year, Canton Fire Chief Shane Gallant said.

He said the three fire department heads got together and re-evaluated the rate. “All towns are on board with it. We’re not flying solo and raising our own price, so all three towns that provide fire coverage for Hartford are sticking together and we have been for the past four years now.”

Gallant said that with the money from Hartford, his department has been able to buy several pieces of new equipment.

Selectmen also agreed to roll over end-of-fiscal-year balances in the Fire Department and transfer station accounts and move any others into the undesignated fund balance or general fund.
