1921 – 2015
BRUNSWICK — Harold Earl Lycette, 93, of Houlton, passed away Sunday, June 21, at Horizons Living and Rehabilitation Center in Brunswick.
He was born in Amity on Sept. 28, 1921, a son of the late Howard and Myra (Vail) Lycette. He grew up in the Amity/Houlton area and attended local schools there. He was a 1940 graduate of Ricker Classical Institute. After high school, Harold attended Ricker Junior College. He worked at Colt Manufacturing in Connecticut, until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and proudly served our country in Australia during World War II. After being honorably discharged in 1945, he returned to Maine to teach refrigeration at Central Maine Trade School in Lewiston.
In 1946, he moved back to the Houlton area and after machining parts for Smith’s Welding Shop for a few months, got a job with V.G. Bates Co. doing refrigeration work. He met Lois Bubar while working for Mr. Bates and they married in 1951. In 1952, he bought the refrigeration business from Mr. Bates and went out on his own. Their son, David, was born in 1953.
Harold owned and operated Harold Lycette Refrigeration Sales & Service for many years and provided both residential and commercial services in Aroostook County, until he retired. He will always be remembered for his love of being at camp on Drews Lake and hunting with his friends. He also enjoyed bowling, playing bridge and entertaining family and friends at different get-togethers.
He is survived by his son, David Lycette and his wife, Twila, of Lisbon Falls; and his two grandchildren, Derick Lycette and Allieanna Lycette. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews, Ronnie Lycette of Amity, Roger and Sally Lycette of Bangor, George and Sharon Lycette of Hodgdon, Mary Lycette Scott of Fort Kent, Richard and Peggy Lycette of York, Pa., Peter and Stephanie Bubar of Littleton, Philip and Melissa Allen of Farmington, Stephen Bubar of Old Orchard, Bart and Stephanie Knight of Cumberland, Leslie Ryan of Sidney, Roger and Susan McBride of Littleton, Kent and Lori London of North Vassalboro and Carleen London of Houlton.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lois, in 1997; his siblings, Wendell, Floyd, Leland, Philip and Luella; and two nephews, Eliot Lycette and Robert Lycette.
