ANDOVER — The second Andover Summer Concert Series will continue at 6 p.m. Friday, June 26, at the Town Common.

The series began last year after resident and business owner Pete Coolidge realized the monthly jam session between him and his friends could entertain the community.

“I’ve done a couple of benefits for people over the years, so I thought it would be neat to do something like this for the town,” he said. “We’ve never really had anything like it in Andover.”

Free concerts will be held every two weeks throughout the summer at 6 p.m. on Fridays.

Coolidge said holding public concerts is a great way to bring everyone together.

“I think it’s important for communities to offer free music,” Coolidge said. “When it comes to seeing live music, it doesn’t matter what else is going on in town, whether people are arguing with each other, or if people don’t see eye-to-eye on something. I feel like the concert series gives people a reason to get together twice a month and connect. When we all sit down and listen to music, it opens a dialogue.”

Attendance has increased over time, he said.

This year, genres will include “folk, classic rock, easy listening, bluegrass, alternative, contemporary and everything in between,” he said.

Local musicians will include the Robinson Family, Natalie and Kier Simmons and Seth Collins.

Coolidge said the “core group” of himself, Steve Simmons, Mike and Tim Gallant and John Emery will perform at each concert and back up other performers.

T-shirts and other merchandise will be available for purchase. Residents can purchase performance calendars at Pete’s Hardware on Nevel Road in Andover.
