WOODSTOCK — A month after firefighters fought a wildfire along the side of Moody Mountain, a Woodstock resident is organizing a cleanup effort along one of the trails in the area.
Jane Chandler said the top of Buck’s Ledge, which is in the area of Moody Mountain, was damaged by a wildfire May 27.
Firefighters fought the fire on the ground and from the air, using a Maine Forest Service helicopter to drop water on the flames.
“The firemen had to cut a lot of trees down to stop the wildfire,” Chandler said. “The trails aren’t that bad, but the trees need to be moved and cleared out before the start of the summer season.”
Chandler said the Woodstock Conservation Commission is sponsoring a hike at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 27, to Buck’s and Lapham Ledge to clear the debris from the damaged trails.
“We’re also going to be moving the fire pit on Buck’s Trail away from the trees, at the landowner’s request,” Chandler said. “This way, something like this won’t happen again.
Those interested in helping with the cleanup can meet at the Route 26 trailhead.
“Bring hand tools, chain saws if possible, work gloves and clothes that can get dirty,” Chandler said.
