BELMAR, N.J. — Our beloved mother, Marguerita Buchanan Heisterman, 98, died at her home surrounded by family on Saturday, Feb. 21. She was fondly known by her nickname, “Mudge.”
She was born May 6, 1916, in Auburn. Following graduation from Edward Little High School in 1934, she attended business school in Atlantic City, N.J. She returned to Maine, where she met and married Arnold E. Heisterman of Lisbon Falls in 1942. After his return from service in World War II, the family relocated to New Jersey.
Mudge had an outgoing, adventurous and engaging personality. In her later years, she lived with her family in New Jersey and traveled extensively in Europe, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. During her life, she made and retained many friends. She was an inspiration to all who knew her, as she epitomized active, productive and healthy aging.
She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold, who died in 1981; and her three siblings, Barbara Jackson, Robert Buchanan and Francis “Buck” Buchanan.
She is survived by her son, Rick Heisterman; his wife, Anita; and granddaughters, Erin Erickson and Meghan Heisterman; and her daughter, Sheril Davala and her husband, George, and grandsons, Michael and Tom Davala of Belmar, N.J.; her sister-in-law, Dot Buchanan; and many nieces and nephews.
