WALES — The Regional School Unit 4 board of directors decided Wednesday to discuss cuts to the recently rejected 2015-16 budget after it learns how much money the state will kick in.
The board discussed the estimated $178,000 that may come from the state for education. The exact amount is expected to be known July 1.
Directors said concerns they heard from voters included that the budget presentation was hard to follow and faculty are working without a contract.
The $18.82 million budget was approved by a substantial margin at the districtwide meeting, but rejected at the polls June 9.
Once directors know the amount the district will get from the state, they will discuss cuts.
One cut being looked at is $20,000 from special education. There were questions about funding prekindergarten programs.
Directors will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, in Room 133 at Oak Hill High School to schedule at a school budget meeting and the pending referendum vote.
The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday July 1, at the high school to discuss any state-approved funding.
Superintendent Jim Hodgkin said, “If people want to have a discussion about the budget, they can certainly contact me.”
