1937 – 2015

LEWISTON — Jeannine Marie Victoria (Chamberland) Bergeron, of 5 Pond Road, Lewiston, died at home on Monday, June 15, surrounded by several of the many people who loved her dearly.

She was born at home on Sept. 25, 1937, the eldest of four children of Laurette (Gendron) and Lionel Chamberland. She remembered a happy, busy childhood, surrounded by a large extended nurturing family and friends. She was proud of her Franco-American heritage.

She graduated, top of her class, from both Holy Family School in Lewiston and St. Joseph’s Academy in South Berwick, where she won an essay contest on the United Nations, sponsored by three regional high schools). She married husband, Emile, at Holy Family Church on July 20, 1957, where she remains a lifelong parishioner.

Jeannine had been employed by First National Bank and Geiger Bros. in her earlier years. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver. She enjoyed writing poems, nature, music, oil painting, taking long walks, motorcycling, snowmobiling, roller-skating, ice-skating, history, crocheting, playing cards, Scrabble, dominoes and Balderdash. She enjoyed going out with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids, whom she loved dearly. She enjoyed over 30 summers at her camp at Parlin Pond, where she met many wonderful people.

She treasured her sense of humor, which was preserved to the very end.

Jeannine leaves behind her husband, Emile; brothers, Raymond, of Littleton, N.H., and Marcel of Greene; son, Daniel Bergeron of Phippsburg; daughters, Lucy Packard and husband, Scott, of Buckfield, Patricia Washburn and husband, Howard, of Hebron and Rose-Marie (Rosie) Bergeron of Lewiston. She has been blessed by seven grandchildren and their families, Candice Cerracchio, Luke Bergeron, Chelsea Packard, Joseph Bergeron, Natalie Washburn, Abbie Bergeron and Crystal Sabo. She also had many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and caretakers of which she was very fond.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Rita, in April of this year; and a special granddaughter, Caitlin Joy Packard. She was determined to continue to fight until the safe arrival of two new family members and realized this goal when her two great-grandsons were born within 24 hours of each other two weeks ago.
