1961 – 2015
AUBURN — Robert R. Packard, 53, of Auburn, was welcomed to heaven by our Lord Jesus on Wednesday, June 10. He passed at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer and is now at peace in the arms of the Lord Jesus. In his departure from this world, Robert leaves all of us with the memories of his love, loyalty, kindness, wisdom, discipline and humor, allowing us to embrace and cherish our special memories with him in our time of sorrow.
Born in Bristol, Conn., on Dec. 4, 1961, he was the son of Corwin R. and Roberta A. Packard. Educated in local schools, he was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1980. In 1988, he met the love of his life, Tammy Maxim, and they were married on July 10, 1999.
Over the course of his working life, he was employed as a printer at EPX/Maine Printing in Portland, at Coca-Cola in South Portland and finally at the NAPA warehouse in Westbrook, retiring due to his illness two years ago.
A devout Christian, he was a member of East Auburn Baptist Church.
Robert enjoyed traveling with his wife, with their favorite destination being Atlantic City. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to fish and hunt, and was a member of the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association, a group dedicated to the German Shorthair Pointer hunting breed. He also had a lifelong love of cars, whether driving, working on or talking about them. Robert enjoyed going to car shows, was a former member of the Nostalgic Nova Car Club and even took classes in body work. He was a dedicated fan of NASCAR and New England sports teams, and especially loved trips to Fenway Park. With all that Bob accomplished in his life, his greatest accomplishment is the love of his family. Besides his loving wife, Tammy, of Auburn, he is survived by his mother, Roberta Packard and Albert of Lewiston; mother-in-law, Nancy Merrill, of Litchfield; a son, Joel Maxim and wife, Jenifer, of Auburn; a daughter, Elizabeth Packard of Auburn; a stepbrother, Michael Whittier and wife, Nancy, of Poland; two stepsisters, Debbie Pelchat and Andrea Hinxman and husband, Frank, both of Auburn; brother-in-law, Ronald Maxim and wife, Wendy, of Litchfield; a sister-in-law, Karen and husband, Rob Haskell, of Lewiston; three grandchildren, Anyssa Logan, Autumn Packard, and Leland Maxim; and nine nieces and nephews, Derek, Tyler, Kodie, Sarah, Benjamin, Samantha, Becky, Brian and David.
He was predeceased by his father and stepmother, Corwin and Francis Packard; his maternal and paternal grandparents; nephew, Jason; and a brother, Brian. Donations, condolences and a video tribute may be accessed online at www.albert-burpee.com.
