LIVERMORE — Voters at Wednesday’s annual town meeting approved money for a new furnace at the highway garage and a radon mitigation system for the Town Office, but no money for repairing a 10-year-old backhoe.

More than 50 voters attended the meeting.

By a vote of 22-29, residents said no to more money for the backhoe. Road Foreman Roger Ferland said the machine has spent its life in salt. He said it needs welding repairs that no accredited welder will certify and the transmission is slipping.

One voter spoke of the decision last year to repair the backhoe rather than replace it.

“We’re putting good money after bad,” she said.

Voters overwhelmingly rejected going to a system of paying property taxes four times a year instead of twice a year.
